Like in the past years, during the holy month of Ramadan this year also, Palestinians are gradually being pushed into the centre of confrontation and eventual war by the brutal Israeli occupation forces for none of their faults. Leaders and Muslims around the world are condemning the aggression by the occupation forces inside one of the most holy sanctuaries of Islam, the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem. As the Israeli forces recklessly attacked the Muslim worshippers with stun grenades, rubber bullets which can inflict fatal injuries, batons and other weapons, there was no means for the hapless people to defend themselves and their Noble Sanctuary or Al Haram Al Sharif.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, Qatar expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli occupation forces storming of the mosque and attack on the worshippers. Qatar specifically denounced the occupation forces storming the Al Qibli Mosque and arresting worshippers inside it and said that it is considered as a provocation to the feeling of millions of Muslims around the world in this blessed month.
Qatar has always been standing by the Palestinians as a strong pillar of support, extending material, financial and emotional support to alleviate the pain being inflicted on the poor people. On Thursday, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held separate phone calls with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Dr. Ismail Haniya, during which H H the Amir reiterated Qatar’s firm position of supporting the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, starting with establishing an independent state, with East Al Quds as its capital.
But, there is a limit to what one country alone can do. It is beyond human capacity to comprehend why the international community is so passive to the myriad problems the Palestinians are forced to confront. The only question that should be drilled into the conscience of of international community is that why the Israeli occupation force is so immune to punishment when we consider the magnitude of atrocities being committed against Palestinians just because they are Muslims. No world power is not even simply suggesting at least one soft form of punishment to the Israelis.
The Palestinians are left with nothing but their fate to defend themselves with bear hands or maximum small rocks or slingshots against the raging tanks and missiles fired by the occupation forces and indiscriminate desecration of their holy places, razing of the neibbourhoods, killing women and children, and being driven out of their homeland.
