“Yes, definitely yes,” the Paris Saint-Germain superstar said when asked whether it will be his last appearance at the international showpiece.
“This will be my last World Cup – for sure. The decision has been made. I am counting down the days to the World Cup. There is a bit of anxiety and nerves at the same time.”
It’s a real shame that it’s Messi’s ‘Last Dance’ at the World Cup, but it was always going to the case given that he’s now 35 years of age.
Both the Argentine and his eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo will almost certainly not appear at the tournament again after Qatar, which really does signal the end of an era.
Messi’s new boots for the Qatar World Cup
Messi is going into his final World Cup on the back of a superb run of form – and he’ll have a new pair of Adidas boots to match that returning brilliance.
They’re called ‘The Adidas X Messi 2022 World Cup Speedportal boots’ and to say they’re beautiful would be doing the footwear some serious disservice.
The gold-coloured stunners are inspired by the boots Messi wore at the 2006 World Cup, which was the first time he made an appearance on the biggest sporting stage of all.

Wonderful, aren’t they? According to the report from Footy Headlines, the boots will be available to purchase as a limited edition at some point in November.
We get the feeling they’re going to sell very, very well…
Can Argentina win the Qatar World Cup?
Argentina are one of the favourites to win the tournament. They’re heading to Qatar on the back of a 35-game unbeaten run and won their first Copa America trophy since 1993 last summer.
On top of that, their inspirational captain Messi is back at the peak of his powers, which bodes very well for the South American nation.
However, Argentina do have a few problems. Key men like Paulo Dybala, Angel Di Maria, Cristian Romero and Gio Lo Celso are all fitness concerns right now, with the tournament just two weeks away.
But as long as Messi is there injury-free, Lionel Scaloni’s side stand a chance of going all the way…
