A group of England fans on the hunt for beer in Qatar, where alcohol is banned, recounted on talkSPORT what may turn out to be one of the strangest stories of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Alex Sullivan, an Everton fan who has travelled to Qatar to support England during the World Cup, told talkSPORT that “we were having a good time, enjoying ourselves”.

Then John, his mate in Qatar, appeared to explain that “last night we met one of the sheikh’s sons and he took us back to the palace… and showed us around. He had lions and everything. We were made to feel welcome and had a look around, it doesn’t get any better than this.”

Last night we met one of the sheikh’s sons and he took us back to the palace… and showed us around. He had lions and everything.

“We were on the hunt for some beers and they said, “We’ll sort the beers,” so we jumped in the back of their Toyota Land Cruiser and ended up in a big palace,” Alex continued with the story.

“We were in the back and he showed us monkeys, his exotic birds…. It was crazy!” he recounted.
